In one line
Throw real dice against the Devil, fill a contract of dice combinations, and survive eight nights with your soul intact.
Description
Midnight Wager is a single-player roguelike built on the classic five-dice tavern game. Each night at the crossroads inn you hold a Contract: a score sheet of clauses like Full House, Small Straight and the Pentagram (five of a kind). Throw up to three times a turn, keep the dice you want, then sign the result into a clause. Every clause signs once a night.
Scores are Luck × Nerve. Clauses set the base, the dice add their pips, and everything you have collected piles on top: trinkets with rule-bending effects, dice inlaid with glass, gold, iron, obsidian, jade or marble, star charts that level up clauses, and forgeries that add, copy or scrub clauses in the contract itself.
Each night has three bells to beat. At Midnight a devil sits down across the table and plays a cheat: a shackled die, a shorter night, odd numbers that do not count. On the eighth night it is the Devil himself, in one of three forms.
Every run earns Infamy, win or lose. Infamy levels and achievements unlock trinkets, new tables that each bend one rule of the game, and Challenges with fixed terms of their own. Every win opens the next of nine Circles of Hell at that table, and the Grimoire keeps a record of everything found and everyone beaten.
